• Russian President Vladimir Putin wants to jointly manage the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant with the US for crypto and Bitcoin mining activities.
  • Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky insisted on joining the US and Russia in managing the plant.

Russian President Vladimir Putin recently spilled details about his bold proposal to US President Donald Trump. The move could tilt the scales not only in the relationship of the two world superpowers, but also in the Bitcoin (BTC) and broader cryptocurrency community.

Bitcoin Mining at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant

According to Inkorr, Putin has expressed willingness to hold another possible dialogue with Trump. The talks would center on the joint management of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant (NPP) located on the Dnieper River in southeastern Ukraine.

The Russian president’s invitation reportedly came in response to the USA’s earlier interest in utilizing the plant for crypto or Bitcoin mining. However, the source claimed that Putin ruled out Ukraine’s possible involvement in the talks, despite the facility being within its geographical location.

The Zaporizhzhia NPP is a vital installation in Ukraine. The former Soviet Union constructed the facility in 1996. To date, it is one of the 10 largest NPPs in the world, producing around 5,700 megawatts (MW).

The plant notably fell under the Russians’ control in 2022.

Ukraine Insists on Participation in the Management of the Zaporizhzhia NPP

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reminded the press in a statement, though, that the parties have yet to reach a consensus over the issue of the Zaporizhzhia NPP. Additionally, he emphasized that the subject regarding the potential joint management of the facility was “America’s proposal.”

Zelensky highlighted that the plant was among the previous 12 points of a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia. Hence, he believes its management should be shared under a cooperation among Ukraine, Russia, and the US.

On the other hand, Putin accused Zelensky and his European Union (EU) backers of trying to “torpedo” the US-brokered Ukraine-Russia peace talks. This could compromise a possible trilateral agreement for the joint operation of the Zaporizhzhia NPP.

The Messenger-Inquirer said that Zelensky’s office confirmed the Ukrainian president’s meeting with Trump in Florida before the year ends. The agenda will reportedly focus on Ukraine’s new 20-point proposal to end the war. The paper is a far different version from the 28-point proposal that Washington laid out last month, which adopted many of Russia’s demands.
